Have you ever wondered why sometimes we have anxiety attacks out of nowhere?
Have you ever drove home but don't actually remember the drive?
How about living a life that you are actively a part of, but don't actually feel connected to it?
As if you're not actually there or you don't fully remember the finer details
You're on auto pilot, just constantly moving to complete tasks while your mind is heavily stressing about the next steps or is being haunted by the past
If any of this sounds like you or if you have had any similar experiences,
it's because your mind and body are disconnected
Now of course, don't start twisting your own neck to check for loose screws,
but begin the journey to gain awareness in how deep this actually goes
The body keeps the score:
We experience lots of emotions every day. Some more intense than others,
whether that's anger, fear, joy, sadness, hurt, etc.
When we feel such emotions so intensely, our body will actually take log of that.
Our senses are heightened, so our sight & hearing becomes more hyperaware, our sense of touch is much more sensitive, our sense of smell is more active, etc.
Our body stores those into your body's memory bank.
So even when your mind wants to forget something painful, your body remembers.
It holds onto that tight chest feeling you got during that argument.
It remembers the way your shoulders tensed up when you heard bad news.
It remembers how your stomach dropped when you felt rejected, unheard, or unseen.
And over time, when this isn’t addressed or processed, your body begins to run on survival mode — scanning for danger even when there is none. That’s when “random” anxiety attacks, memory gaps, or that feeling of disconnection start to show up.
You're not broken. You're just holding onto things you never had the chance to safely release.
Body & Head connection?
I'm sure you're aware that your brain is made up of specialized cells that transmit nerve impulses called neurons - approximately, 86 billion neurons.
What you may not know is that your heart also has neurons, in fact it has approximately 40,000 of them
And the gut? Yes, that has neurons too! Between 200 to 600 million!!
Our brain, heart and gut are all connected. It is a trifecta of physical, emotional & cognitive connection. This is why sometimes talk therapy only touches the surface of your healing.
It's because your body has stored the trauma, stress and experiences as well as your mind.
You think your mind replays a memory like a broken record? Imagine what your body is saying!
Talking can't get those stuck emotions in your body that you're unwittingly storing.
So how do we reconnect?
This is where healing begins. Not just by thinking positive or pushing through, but by gently reintroducing your mind and body back to each other.
Here are a few powerful but simple practices to begin with:
Grounding techniques: Like walking barefoot on grass, holding a warm mug, or naming five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear… these help bring your awareness back into your body.
Breathwork: Intentional breathing sends a signal to your nervous system that it’s safe to calm down. Try inhaling for 5 seconds, holding for 5, exhaling for 5.
Journaling: Writing out your thoughts helps bridge the gap between what you feel and what you know.
Movement: Whether it’s stretching, dancing, or a short walk—moving your body lets stuck emotions begin to move too - especially done intentionally. Steps at work doesn't count
Therapy or somatic work: Sometimes we need support in navigating what we’ve buried. Speaking to someone trained in trauma-informed care can make all the difference.
Healing isn’t linear, and it definitely doesn’t happen overnight. But the more you begin to reconnect with your body, the more your anxiety starts to make sense.
You begin to realize it was never out of nowhere — it was just out of awareness.
But now, you're starting to remember.
You're starting to feel again.
You're starting to come home to yourself.
And that’s a powerful place to begin.
If you're interested in working through this more extensively,
